SINGLE EMPLOYEE RETRENCHMENTS
In terms of Section 191 (5) (b) of the Labour Relations Act No 66 of 1995, an employee may refer a dispute to the Labour Court for adjudication if the employee has alleged that the reason for dismissal is: “… (ii) based on the employers operational requirements”.

WHOLESALE AND RETAIL INDUSTRY WAGE INCREASE

Take note that the next round of wage increases in this industry is due to be implemented on the 1st February 2009.

The increase stipulated is the previous minimum wage plus CPIX plus 1 %, with the CPIX figure being the figure published six weeks prior to the implementation date of the increase. Statistics South Africa has set this figure at 12.1 % (as published in November 2008).
